Burke's Quest Pushes Seventh Grade to Solve Puzzles
There aren't many of us who've been asked to create a human tableau of the Golden Gate Bridge with our colleagues, but seventh graders recently got a taste of the teamwork and imagination such a feat requires.
As part of an advisory exercise, the Class of 2019 worked through a set of six stations with a different puzzle or challenge to solve. In addition to the tableau, students filmed a short skit, cracked codes using black light and the musical notes of the Burke's school song, and — most importantly — brainstormed about times that they were self-advocates or stepped out of their comfort zones. Each advisory uncovered one clue, which came together to form one message: "Together, We Do More." Click here to see more photos.
The stations were adapted from a similar exercise that all faculty and staff undertook on the first day of Opening Meetings in August. Director of Curriculum & Program Innovation Mike Matthews (who's also a big fan of The Amazing Race) put together the team-builder, which he called Burke's Quest.
