Students Raise More Than $4,000 for Hurricane Relief

Just as Burke's was getting back to school in early September, several major hurricanes swept through the Caribbean and the southeast United States.

Students brainstormed a number of ideas that they could put into action to raise funds for relief and recovery efforts, eventually landing on the project that became Burke's Lemon-Aid for Hurricane Relief. Organized by Quise Edwards, Burke's new Director of Inclusivity & Community Building, the effort tasked students with holding lemonade stands — in groups or on their own — with special Burke's Lemon-Aid signs. The original goal for two weekends' worth of lemonade sales was $1,500, which would go directly to the Red Cross.

Midway through the drive, Burke's girls had already shattered the $1,500 goal! Thanks to the efforts of more than 65 students, Lemon-Aid for Hurricane Relief raised $4,091.57 for the Red Cross by the time the campaign concluded, which is more than 270% of the original $1,500 goal. We are so proud of everyone's outstanding efforts to benefit the Red Cross during this time of extreme need.
