Youth Voice Officers Go to City Hall

Eight Burke’s Youth Voice Officers participated in a Women’s March reception with Mayor London Breed, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Malia Cohen, 2nd District Representative for the California State Board of Equalization.

For most of the Burke’s students, this was their first visit to City Hall! The students had the opportunity to watch the rally from a terrace as Mayor Breed gave her remarks. Later, Mayor Breed held an open Q&A in her office and fielded student questions on everything from homelessness and climate change, to her record on LGBTQ issues and handling the tough challenges of her new role. Last but not least, she encouraged them to work hard and use their voice as future female leaders! Click here for photos of the event.
