Full STEAM Ahead at the Arts Festival

On May 11, the annual Arts Festival splashed all sorts of amazing colors and interesting shapes across campus!

Hallways and classrooms throughout campus were festooned with pieces in a variety of mediums and depicting all sorts of subject matter.

Those pieces included abstract sculptures crafted from cardboard, copper repoussé (a technique for ornamenting metal), and all sorts of floral paintings and prints. Students in Tree House even created a mural in honor of the late Ms. Gale Mosheim and her love of birds. The annual fourth-grade "fashion show" this year was dedicated to C-Stunners (pictured), wearable art patterned on eyeglasses inspired by Kenyan artist Cyrus Kabiru.

But as in years past, the exhibits on display often went far beyond the traditional arts. The eighth grade brought its science studies to an end with its yearly running of Rube Goldberg machines, and the 5th/6th Grade Science Lab played host to density columns and ecological infographics. Downstairs outside the Upper School art classroom were paper quilled versions of a variety of cell types from different organisms.

The Lower School Library featured blogs and e-books on geography, Women Who Made a Difference, and the moon, and next door in the Upper School Library were screens showing off stop-motion movies produced by Spanish, French, and Mandarin students on influential women. And the fifth grade's Egyptian Museum and the sixth grade's Medieval Museum were reconstructed so those who couldn't visit the initial exhibits earlier this year.
