"¡Fiesta Mexicana!" Brings Cultural Traditions to Life

Just before Spring Break, second, third, and fourth graders brought the rich traditions of a full array of Mexican music to the Gym for the Spring Concert.

Students did everything from play musical games to perform traditional dances to show off their skills on the guitar, violin, and recorder — all while wearing student-made paper flowers. The concert came together with the guidance of Burke's community members with Mexican heritage as well as a summer grant in 2017 that gave Lower School music specialist Lisa Mandelstein the opportunity to learn more about traditional south-of-the-border performances with Upper School Spanish teacher Anthony Sabedra. Click here to see more photos from the concert!

As a finale, all three grades joined together for the Academy Award-winning song from Coco: "Remember Me." Click here to watch! You can also view several short videos of the second grade at the dress rehearsal on the Burke's website.
