The Alumnae Association holds several events throughout the year and endeavors to foster lifelong connections between Burke's graduates — and to strengthen their relationship to Burke's.

In mid-January, we usually gather with the alumni association of Town School for Boys for an annual joint reunion/cocktail party. See a few photos of the most recent version of that fun evening here. At the conclusion of each school year, we will invite recent graduates back to campus for our annual Burke's & Beyond, a panel discussion with eighth graders about what lies ahead of them.

The hallmark event of the Alumnae Association's calendar is the annual Alumnae Luncheon, which is held each spring. In 2018, we expanded this event into two days of activities, with a seminar on estate planning joining with our usual luncheon on Friday, June 1, and a picnic lunch on Burke's front field for reunion-year alumnae on Saturday, June 2. Both days were such a success that we plan to schedule another Alumnae Reunion Weekend next year!

There are also several unique alumnae events each year, and in the 2017-18 school year, those included:

  • Alumnae Tea & Cocktails at the House of Dreams. University High School, which is now located in the building on Jackson Street where Burke's used to be, opened its doors to our alumnae for a reception and tours on the afternoon of Friday, October 6, 2017.
  • Alumnae Mentorship Network Launch Event and Panel Discussion. The first event of the new Alumnae Mentorship Network, the evening of Thursday, February 1 featured inspiring alumnae speakers.
  • An out-of-town get-together for alumnae in New York City.
  • An event to learn more about Burke's ongoing capital campaign and to say goodbye to the existing Lunchroom space before its transformation in summer 2018. This lunch even included old Burke's cafeteria favorites like pierogis!

Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2018
Our flagship event has been expanded into a two-day affair!

The Luncheon is such a beautiful event every year, thanks in large part to our incredible Luncheon Chair Aimee Fowler Carlson ’85, so in 2018, we expanded our celebration across two days and the additional events were met with great enthusiasm. The Estate Planning Seminar with Danielle Broude Yokell ’96 provided food for thought (and mimosas!) for alumnae across generations before our annual Alumnae Luncheon at the Metropolitan Club, and Saturday’s Reunion Picnic brought members of milestone reunion years back to Burke’s with partners, children, and parents for a student-led campus tour and a picnic on the front lawn.

Congratulations to those reunion years — 1943 (75 years); 1948 (70 years); 1953 (celebrating 65 years); 1958 (60 years); 1963 (45 years); 1968 (50 years); 1973 (45 years); 1978/1978e (40 years); 1983 (35 years); 1988 (30 years); 1993 (25 years); 1998 (20 years); and 2003 (15 years) — as well as to our 2018 Distinguished Alumna Mary Shen O’Carroll ’90, who spoke at our Friday event.
Burke's mission is to educate, encourage and empower girls. Our school combines academic excellence with an appreciation for childhood so that students thrive as learners, develop a strong sense of self, contribute to community, and fulfill their potential, now and throughout life.
