With the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, Burke’s opened the Makeries – Makery Up and Makery Down. These two newly designed and equipped spaces replace our old technology labs. With the creation of the Makeries Burke’s is able to more fully incorporate the 21st-century skills of design thinking, problem solving and critical thinking into our curriculum, grades K-8. Makery Down is a media production space for creating print, video and audio presentations.

Each Makery space has an array of desktop computers, laptop computers and iPads. Makery Down has digital cameras for video work, photography and stop-motion animation, green screens, recording headsets, microphones, etc. There are Z-racks and movable tables that enable reconfiguration of the learning environment to best suit the needs of the project. There are vinyl cutters, paper cutters, as well as both color and black-and-white laser printers.

For more information on our Makery Tech Labs, visit our 21st-Century Learning page here.

Burke's mission is to educate, encourage and empower girls. Our school combines academic excellence with an appreciation for childhood so that students thrive as learners, develop a strong sense of self, contribute to community, and fulfill their potential, now and throughout life.
