History

Through studies of current events, American history, Ancient Egypt and Greece, Medieval Europe and Islam, and the effects of European encounters with the peoples of the Americas and Africa, our students develop an understanding of the concepts of culture, geography, and the relationship between the two. Emphasis is placed on map skills, critical thinking, comparing and contrasting, and the ability to understand historical events from multiple perspectives. Students learn to research, take notes, and to present their findings in both oral presentations and research papers.

The fifth and sixth grade study of history is included in our Humanities courses, which combine English and History. At these grade levels, students have one teacher for Humanities studies. Seventh and eighth grade classes are taught history as a separate subject.
