English

In English our emphasis is on developing confident, appreciative and analytical readers of all genres of literature and equally confident, critical writers of both narrative and expository prose with forays into poetry each year as well. This growth is supported by work on vocabulary development, grammar and the mechanics of writing. All of our English courses include independent reading to foster our students’ love of reading as a life-long activity.

The fifth and sixth grade study of English is included in our Humanities course, which combines English and History.  At these grade levels, students have one teacher for all of their Humanities studies.  In seventh and eighth grade, English is taught as a separate subject.
