Art

Burke's art program for our fifth through eighth grade students offers exploration of many different areas including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, multicultural crafts, and digital art as well as two- and three-dimensional design. Students acquire art language and concepts from both hands-on experiences and discussion and are exposed to multicultural art history references appropriate to each project. Student work is displayed throughout the school during the year and is featured at our school-wide Arts Festival each spring.

All fifth and sixth grade students attend an art class once a week for 85 minutes throughout the year.

Seventh graders are required to take one trimester of art and may elect a second. Each class meets once a week for 85 minutes.

Eighth graders have art as one of several elective choices each trimester throughout the year. Classes meet once a week for 85 minutes. Elective art classes are usually small, from five to fifteen students per section.
