Burke's Families-

With spring fast approaching, Burke's is alive with activity.  The Dinner Auction is just around the corner and will be a fun evening to share with our community at Bimbo's 365 Club.  The Dinner Auction is an important cornerstone in our fundraising efforts and is the culmination of an incredible amount of work on the part of many parent volunteers.  We hope that every family engages in this effort, whether it is donating an item, donating your time or attending the auction. 

Our evening Parents' Association meeting will be held on March 15, and I look forward to welcoming those parents who are otherwise unable to attend our day meetings.  To close out a thought-provoking year of interesting speakers, there are two more events left in our Speaker Series: Smart Parenting in an Online World on March 23 and the Mindful Brain on April 20. 

On the sustainability front, we will formalize our Green Committee at the March Parents' Association meeting.  There will also be one final Bus-to-Burke's week March 29 - April 2.  And, for those that are comfortable biking on San Francisco streets, Bike-to-Burkes will take place from May 17 - May 21.

March/April Overview

Burke's Parents' Association Meeting
We hope to see you at our evening Parents' Association meeting on Monday, March 15, at 6:00 pm.  In addition to reporting on our committee activities, parent and pediatrician Mary Steele will discuss some health tips. Kim Wargo will be giving an "Overview: A Snapshot of Burke's Today."  We hope to see many of you there, especially those that cannot attend our meetings during the day.

Childcare will be provided for Burke's students and their siblings in the Treehouse.  Our extended care teachers will provide them with a snack of cheese pizza and a vegetable.  If your child(ren) would like something different, please send it with them.  Please RSVP requests to Mrs. Coleman by Thursday, March 11.

Starry Night Dinner Auction on March 27, 2010
The Starry Night Dinner Auction will be here soon!  Please RSVP by March 12 to attend the auction.  Also, the online auction will go live Wednesday, March 17.   There are some great auction items at many different price points.  Prior to that date, you can get a teaser of fun auction items on the main page of our website.

Volunteers are needed prior, during and after the auction evening.  Please contact Becky Klawans if you are available.

Please have your daughters decorate their gold or silver stars which will serve as both a decoration and inspiration for the evening itself. 

Last, but not least, it is never too late to help underwrite the event or sponsor a teacher.

Green Committee Vote
As part of our effort to formalize the sustainability efforts currently underway at the school and in the Parents' Association, we are establishing the Green Committee as a formal committee.  For the upcoming year, we envision continuing our transportation efforts through Bus-to-Burke's and Bike-to-Burke's weeks, working with the Burke's Board of Trustees in implementing their upcoming strategic priorities and formalizing the sustainability effort at our Family Festival and other parents' Association events.

Bike-to-Burke's Week May 17- 21        
Our final Bus-to-Burke's week is scheduled for March 29 - April 2.  We have had an incredible turnout and many of the girls are now becoming expert bus riders.  Please contact Karen Allen if you would like to sign up to ride the #1 California bus.  A schedule of volunteers will be posted on the website the week prior to and during the week of Bus-to-Burke's.
