Student-Made Buttons Convey Positive Body Messages

In fourth-grade art, students recently combined lessons in positive body image with creative expression to make buttons with a broad range of catchy sayings. (Among them: "I'm size awesome!")

Lower School art teacher Yara Herman says, "The curriculum is designed to help students deconstruct the messages society sends girls about their bodies and explore how to build on their own positive perceptions about how they look and what their bodies can do."

After discussing these issues, students made one button for themselves and gave the rest away — including to a board now on display in the Library. Click here to see more photos.
