Board of Trustees

News from the Board

Year-End Update | June 2, 2016

Dear Burke's Community,

Take a deep breath, fellow Burke’s parents! The end of the school year is just around the corner, and I am amazed at how quickly it’s flown.

It’s truly been a pleasure for me to serve as President of the Board of Trustees this past year, my first in this position. Working alongside Head of School Michele Williams to ensure that the Burke’s legacy lives on, is challenging and rewarding at the same time — and not a responsibility that I take lightly.

It helps to be surrounded by a highly capable and dedicated group of fellow trustees. Please join me in thanking five colleagues who are stepping down at the end of this year: Ravin Agrawal, Julia Wong, Brooks Doggett, Lara Witter, and Gretchen Hansen. Their deep contributions to the success of the board are too numerous to name here, but their outstanding work and talents will have a lasting impact on our school. I also want to wish a fond farewell to the outgoing P.A. President, Michele Bell, and the outgoing Alumnae Association President, Clara Abecassis ’92, along with my gratitude for adding fresh perspectives and energy to our work through their ex-officio roles on the board.

We are delighted to announce that four trustees — Nel Ellwein, Ambi Bowo, Scott Crabill, and Annie Robinson Woods — are renewing their commitment to Burke’s with second terms on the Board of Trustees. In addition, five new community members (Stephanie Bailey, W. Brewster Ely IV, Jonathan Feldman, Catarina Schwab, and Alexis Traina) will be joining us this fall; click here to read more about them. Our slate of officers will be voted on at our final meeting of the year on June 6, so be sure to check the Burke’s website after that for an update on next year’s lineup.

But before we jump into next year’s work, I want to take a moment to review what we’ve accomplished this year. The 2015-16 school year was our fourth with Michele Williams at the helm, and our second with the Strategic Plan in place. We’ve accomplished a tremendous amount towards seeing this plan fulfilled — go here to see a highlighted list, and click on any item to read more. We think you’ll be pleased by the strong collective strides we’ve taken on these important initiatives.

In closing, I wish you and your families a wonderful summer, and I thank you for all you do to keep Burke’s going strong — especially in these fun, but busy final days of the school year.

Gratefully,

Evie Davis
President of Burke's Board of Trustees
