Burke's Sends Tablets to Teach with Africa

Burke's has hosted educators from the nonprofit organization Teach with Africa South Africa-USA Educator Exchange Program on campus each spring for the last seven years.

In turn, Burke's teachers — including Nayo Brooks, Susan Deemer, and Howard McCoy — have all traveled to South Africa as part of Teach with Africa's master teacher fellowship program. Over the past summer, Burke's sent something else — a set of 21 first-generation iPads.

A Teach with Africa partner held a gathering for principals and high-achieving teachers in early December, and as part of the event, attendees received one of the Burke's iPads for their own use. "We wanted to motivate them, extend appreciation for their efforts, and also enable them to be positioned to become more and more comfortable using a tablet through increasing use," said Pam Richardson, director of the Community Partnership Program at Singita in Cape Town, as part of a thank-you note to Burke's for the donation.
