Burke's Girls Go Googling

On Friday, May 29, 20 Burke's girls in grades 4-7 had the opportunity to attend Google I/O Youth, a new initiative aimed to bring youth voices and participation to the Google Worldwide Developers' Conference at Moscone Center.
The girls were inspired by speeches from tech leaders who talked about their career paths and shared their visions for the future of technology, education and computer science. Students also participated in a series of hands-on stations in which they programmed a robot to navigate the surface of the moon, coded a digital Yeti to dance and created their own animations using Toontastic. Accompanied by Michele Williams and Mike Matthews, the 20 girls from Burke's were among 150 students from across the entire Bay Area who had the opportunity to attend this exciting new youth component of the Google I/O event.
