Students Earn Top Honors in Mandarin Speech Contest

Three Burke's students earned top honors in the state in a Mandarin Speech Contest on April 26. The Chinese Language Teachers Association of California's (CLTAC) held its 39th annual Mandarin Speech Contest at Lowell High School in San Francisco.

More than 600 students participated in this year's event. Burke's was represented by 13 students, who had composed and memorized their speeches and spent countless hours practicing pronunciation and delivery.

Isabel, a sixth grader, finished first in her division, while classmate Lorraine earned an honorable mention. In the seventh grade division, Julia finished in first place. Thanks from Mandarin teacher Mei Xue to all of our students for their hard work and to their parents for their wonderful support!
