Susan Faust to Chair International Children's Book Award Committee
Burke's Lower School Librarian Susan Faust was appointed chair of the 2011 Mildred L. Batchelder Award Committee which is administered by the Association of Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association. As Chair, Ms. Faust will guide a five-member national committee in selecting the most outstanding children's book translated into English in 2010. The Batchelder Award contributes to international understanding by giving children in the United States a window into the lives of children in other parts of the world through books. The books selected for the 2011 award will become part of the canon of distinguished international children's books for years to come.
This opportunity is one of many that Ms. Faust has had through ALSC. With support from Burke's, she has served on many children's book award committees and chaired several others including the 2005 Newbery Committee and the 2001 Sibert Award Committee.
