3rd Grade Poetry to Music Project 2009-2011

Poetry to Music to Video

The girls of third grade are proud to present the completed videos that  they did to show the relationship between poetry and music, specifically Hip Hop. In each class, we started with a discussion and brainstorming session of things that the girls liked or were passionate about. After, we took the top choices and created a mind map to see how much we knew about each topic, and chose the one that we had the most information about.

For 3A, it was "The World". For 3b, it was "Candy". We divided into groups and wrote poems about their respective topics. Then we selected individual parts of the poem and came back as a class to edit our poems. Once we had our poems, Mr. Avery––who is an AT in 1st grade and a former studio engineer in LA––recorded the girls and produced the tracks. Finally, we recorded our videos in Technology with Ms. Howland (with the assistance of Ms. Brooks and Ms. Goh), who graciously obtained a green screen for the project and helped with the editing. The backdrop of the videos is orginal art created by the girls. Enjoy!

The World    Candy

2009-2010 Songs. 

These are the completed songs from a project we did to showthe relationship between poetry and music. We started with writing poems, letting the girls choose from various subjects that fell under the topic of nature.  After completing the poems, we gave the girls rhythm tracks to pick from and practice to courtesy of local engineer/producer–– Dario Choy. Mr. Choy also visited our class, discussing with the girls the recording process. We grouped the girls by similar topic and created songs.
