
Counseling Intern Position
Katherine Delmar Burke School is an independent K-8 girls' school located on a 3.5 acre campus in San Francisco. Burke's is seeking a Counseling Intern for the 2010-11 school year. The Counseling Intern will work with the School Counselor, Division Directors, and Assistant Head of School to serve as a resource to students, parents, teachers, and administrators on issues of psychological, social and emotional development.
Specific responsibilities may include: identifying priority topics and programs that the intern counselor will implement with small groups and in the classroom; working with the Division Directors, School Counselor, Assistant Head of School, and classroom teachers and advisors to develop a proactive approach through direct classroom teaching on social-emotional issues appropriate at specified grade levels; consulting with Upper School science teachers on curriculum related to health, nutrition, sexuality and body image; serving as a resource to L.S. teachers/U.S. advisors for planning and conducting class meetings & advisory group discussions and providing strategies to support our students; serving as a resource to individual parents for discussion of individual concerns or questions; and serving as a resource to Academic Administrators for planning or providing parent education.
Work Schedule: A total of 30 hours per week with additional time for in-services and extra meetings as required.
Requirements:
- A Master's degree (completed or near-completion) in a counseling-related field.
- Experience working with children and adults
- Facility with current literature on social-emotional development for children and adolescents
