Taste Nutrition FAQ

Q: How is the lunch service different from last year?

A: We are providing a selection of wholesome fresh food prepared on-site daily. We also have eliminated prepackaged foods that have transfats and/or a high sugar-content.

Q: What will the menu selection be?

A: Taste Nutrition Services has worked to create an appetizing, nutritious menu designed to appeal to students. The monthly menu is available on the Burke’s website just above the MyNutriKids logo.

Q: Can my student still bring her lunch?

A: Yes.

Q: What if my student has food allergies?

A: The menu has been designed to eliminate many of the more common food allergens. Instructions regarding special food restrictions can be added to account information at any time to alert the staff at check-out. Please direct restriction requests to Jeanette Moore (her contact information is listed below).

Q: How do I sign my student up for the lunch service?

A: All students have been entered into the computer system so that they may purchase food when they need it. Please go to the KDBS website and click on the MyNutriKids logo to add money to your student’s account. Please direct requests for your student’s ID # to Jeanette Moore (her contact information is listed below).

Q: What is the cost of the full lunch service?

A: $5.50 for lower school and $5.75 for upper school.

Q: Is there a service charge for maintaining an online account?

A: There is no service charge.

Q: What does the full meal include?

A: The full meal includes tap water or milk, the entree and two sides, one fruit and one vegetable. Tap water is available to everyone. Plastic water bottles are not offered in order to reduce waste. We are reviewing the drink options offered as part of the full meal option and those sold as a la carte items.

Q: What if my student brings her lunch and only wants a drink or a snack at recess?

A: She can use her account number to pay for individual items.

Q: How will my student know how much money is left in the account?

A: The cashier in the lunchroom will be able to tell her or you can access your account information anytime through the MyNutriKids link on the Burke’s website.

Q: What if she does not have enough money in her account?

A: No child will be allowed to go hungry. She will have the cost of items purchased posted to her account and the account will show a negative balance. Once you’ve set up your student’s account for online access, you may set a dollar level below which there will be an automatic email reminder.

Q: Can my student still pay for lunch or a la carte items with cash?

A: Just as in the past, only Upper School students are allowed to pay with cash.

Q: Can my student still purchase soup or a sandwich for lunch?

A: Grade 1 & 2 students are able to substitute soup or a sandwich for that day’s hot lunch entrée. All other students are able to buy a full lunch or any combination they wish. Students will always be encouraged to have a healthy lunch.

Q: What are the dessert choices?

A: On Fridays a cookie is offered as part of the full lunch served and is offered as an a la carte item.

Q: What is offered to drink?

A: Water on tap, served in pitchers, milk, soy milk, and juice.

Q: What has the response been to the food so far?

A: The general response to the food is positive. Sales are going up steadily.

Q: Sometimes the hot entrée is lukewarm or cold. What is being done?

A: We are always trying to serve a hot entrée. Hot is defined according to the age of the students being served: lower school hot is cooler than upper school hot and both of these may be cooler than what an adult would consider hot. We are looking into the condition of our equipment to insure that it can provide the heat we need.

Q: What is the definite policy regarding seconds?

A: At the start of the school year, seconds were offered free of charge in an effort to gauge the proper portion sizes for the different age groups. Seconds may have been offered free seconds for as long as one month. The current policy is that there are seconds for an additional charge. Depending on the size of the seconds serving, from some extra pasta to an entire full meal, the charge can be anywhere from $1 to $3. Reviewing your student’s activity online will help you understand how this policy applies to her.

Q: What is the policy regarding a la carte items?

A: The full meal is all that is available to grades K-2, in order to encourage eating a balanced meal. All items are available as a la carte items for purchase by girls in grades 3-8.

Q: What do I do if I have been charged a transaction fee to put money into my student’s account?

A: Currently, no one is being charged this fee. Initially, some people may have been charged the $1.75 transaction fee in error. We apologize for the inconvenience if you were charged this fee. If you notice that you were charged this fee and have still not been refunded, please contact Jeanette Moore (her contact information is listed below).

Q: What do I do if I wish to dispute any purchases on my student’s account?

A: Please contact Jeanette Moore (her contact information is listed below).

Q: Will prices of food items be posted on the website?

A: We are working on it at this time. In the meantime, please continue to review your student’s account online for the pricing of the items she is choosing.

Q: What is being done to help the students get through the cafeteria line more quickly?

A: Some of the students in grades 2, 3, and 4 seem to be spending too much time in line and don’t have enough time to eat their lunch. Several measures are being taken to address this concern. We are encouraging students who are making “grab and go” purchases to move ahead rather than wait in line. Soup is being dished out just before their arrival in order to save some serving time. We are also encouraging students to think about what they would like to have before it’s their time to place their order. We hope this will improve the speed at which all the girls are served and will continue to monitor the situation.

Q: Who is my principal contact regarding cafeteria questions and issues?

A: Please send an email to Jeanette Moore or put a note in her mailbox.
