Second Grade Positive and Negative Space Collages, inspired by Henri Matisse

Students examined the works of Henri Matisse, noting that his style changed over the years, from bright and vivid portraits and still lifes, to more abstract collages. They created abstract collages in their own sketchbooks, playing with simple shapes and using positive space, in other words, the shape itself, and negative space, or the area around the shape.
