Fourth Grade Visits Tennessee Valley

The fourth grade took a field trip to Tennessee Valley Cove on October 30. It was inspired by the fourth grade's recent finishing of the novel, Island of the Blue Dolphin, by Scott O'Dell. The teachers chose this particular area for this trip because it resembles a place in the book called Coral Cove.

To get to Tennessee Valley Cove we had to walk 1.5 miles.  Each student was given a packet with eight activities. Each girl was required to choose five activities from this packet and do them. A few of these activities included using natural resources. The use of natural resources was needed because we had to make things like the main character Karana did in Island of the Blue Dolphin.

We left at about 12:00 noon after eating lunch. On the way back some people went on a higher trail than the main one. Some people ran on the high road or walked and enjoyed the stunning views. The people who ran on the high road beat the people on the main path and pretended to sleep at the parking lot.

The field trip inspired poetry, drawing and lots of fun!

As I was walking
The trees look like
             Fins on a shark.
The hill is a camel's hump,
The cove a crystal
            with many bumps.
The water is a little waterfall
with giant crabs stalking the sand
I will climb the giant monster
For I could slip since so
              steep!
