Tuition & Financial Assistance

The tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is:

Kindergarten through Grade Five $22,500
Grade Six through Eight
$23,300

Burke’s is dedicated to its strong commitment to ensuring socioeconomic diversity in the school and recognizes that tuition and fees are a large financial commitment for families.

For the 2008-2009 school year the school awarded approximately $1,090,000 to k-8 families who have demonstrated need. Approximately 19% of the student body receives some form of financial assistance.  Financial assistance grants may cover tuition, extended care, educational support and other school related expenses.

To assist families, the Business Office also coordinates several different payment plan options to make the payment of tuition and fees more manageable. In addition, they are also able to provide information and guidance on educational loans provided by third-party lenders.

Applying for Financial Assistance

The Katherine Delmar Burke School, like most independent schools, offers need-based financial assistance. Need-based financial assistance is the difference between a family’s resources and the cost of a student’s educational expenses. Burke’s and many other independent schools use the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) from the school and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to do a standardized calculation to determine need. Admission decisions are made in all cases without regard to financial need.

Every family will automatically receive Burke’s financial assistance information and application forms when you request an admissions packet.

Steps to apply for financial assistance:

  1. Request an admissions packet by contacting the Admissions Office. Please feel welcome to download the following items for additional information

  2. Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) along with the filing fee by January 16, 2009.  In December, the PFS is available online at www.nais.org. Print a copy of your online PFS submission and send a copy to Burke’s.

  3. Have a PFS report sent to Katherine Delmar Burke School (School Code: 4294), and order a report for your records.

  4. Send a copy of your 2008 IRS 1040 and W-2 or 1099s by February 13, 2009 to the Director of Admissions.

  5. Meet all deadlines. A late application can mean limited or no financial assistance. Parents and guardians are responsible for verifying that the Burke’s Admissions Office has received all materials.

  6. All financial assistance decisions are mailed along with the admissions decisions on March 19, 2009.
