Affording Burke's

The tuition for the 2009-2010 school year is:

Kindergarten through Grade Four $23,400
Grades Five through Eight
$24,200

Burke’s has a strong commitment to ensuring socioeconomic diversity in the school and recognizes that tuition and fees are a large financial commitment for families.

This year the school has budgeted approximately $1,150,000 for families who have demonstrated need. Approximately 22% of the student body will receive some form of financial assistance.  Financial assistance grants may cover tuition, extended care, educational support and other school related expenses.

Payment Plans

Burke's offers three different payment plans to families.  Each year the tuition deposit of $1,500 is due in February with a student's enrollment contract.  The Business Office can arrange payment for the remaining balance as follows:

One Payment: The enrollment deposit is due in February.  The balance is due by June 1, 2010.

Two payments: The enrollment deposit is due in February.  The remaining tuition balance is payable in two installments: 65% due on June 1, 2010 and 35% due on December 12, 2010.

Seven or ten month payments:  The enrollment deposit is due in February.  The remaining tuition balance is payable in seven or ten monthly installments with the first payment due April 1.

Applying for Financial Assistance

Katherine Delmar Burke School, like most independent schools, offers need-based financial assistance. Need-based financial assistance is the difference between a family’s resources and the cost of a student’s educational expenses. Burke’s and many other independent schools use the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) from the School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS to do a standardized calculation to determine need. Burke's makes admission decisions in all ca ses without regard to financial need.

Steps to apply for financial assistance:

  1. Complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) from School and Student Services (SSS), along with the filing fee, by January 15, 2010.  Starting November 1, the PFS is available online at www.sss.nais.org.
  2. Request SSS send a PFS report to Katherine Delmar Burke School (School Code: 4294), and order a report for your records.
  3. Send a copy of your 2008 and 2009 tax returns, W-2s and/or 1099s by February 12, 2010 to School and Student Services.
  4. Meet all deadlines.  In February, parents and guardians are responsible for verifying that the Admissions Office has received your PFS and supporting tax documents.
  5. All financial assistance decisions are mailed along with the admissions decisions on March 18, 2010.
