Calendar
Below are important Library dates for the academic year 2011-2012.

Summer books are due during the first full week of school in September.

Overdue notices are issued to students on the first Tuesday of each month, October through April, and every Tuesday in the closing weeks of school.

Hours

Lower School students enrolled in Extended Care may come to the Library with permission to do homework from 3:30 to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Other Lower School students may come to the Library after school with their parents from 3:30 to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Upper School students may use the Library independently after school from 3:30 to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Parents may generally use the Library before school, after school from 3:30 to 4:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, or by appointment. Because schedules sometimes change, it is best to email before coming in.

The Library closes at 12:30 pm on half-days

Borrowing rules
Burke’s Lower School students may have out up to 4 books at a time. (Some grades are granted bonus books at various times of the year.) Kindergartners may each borrow one book during the scheduled library time, and first through fourth graders may borrow up to two books.

Replacement costs will be charged for lost materials. Third and fourth grade girls must return all books or pay for all missing materials in order to receive their yearbooks in June.

Burke’s Upper School students may have out up to 20 items at a time. They must return all books or pay for all missing materials in order to receive their yearbooks in June.

Burke’s parents have borrowing privileges. Borrowing cards are on file in the Library. Parents may borrow as many books as they would like.

Burke’s faculty and staff have borrowing privileges. Borrowing cards are on file in the Library. Faculty and staff may borrow as many books as they would like.

Books are checked out to students for 21 days, to parents for 28 days, and to Faculty and Staff for 60 days.

Lost Materials
Replacement cost will be charged for lost material. If the replacement cost is impossible to determine then the following charges apply:
$20 for a hardback book
$10 for a paperback book

In addition, there is a processing charge of $5 per book.
