Welcome from Head of School

I usually keep my office windows open because I love to watch and listen to our girls, as they play foursquare, work collaboratively, read quietly, or run, skip or hula-hoop across the courtyard. Their engagement, joy, and clear sense of belonging are at the heart of the Burke’s experience.

Our work with our girls is informed by our mission, as we seek countless ways to educate, encourage and empower 400 Burke’s girls, each with her unique gifts and talents. At Burke’s, our girls acquire academic skills, develop character and forge life-long friendships.

Our girls run, explore and play while they learn on our beautiful campus that allows them to experience the natural environment in and out of their classrooms. We want each Burke’s girl to have the self-awareness and confidence to be the best she can be.  We help each girl find her own voice.

Let me share a few of their voices describing their school:

“In every class, I was always challenged to consider why something happened, why it is the way it is, why do we care; why, why, why.  My teachers not only asked me why, but encouraged me to ask the questions too.”

“Burke’s has taught me not only what 4 x 2 is or how to write a paragraph, but also to have confidence in my education and my ability to think for myself.”

“It is a privilege to say that I am a Burke’s girl.  I am so grateful that my parents sent me to Katherine Delmar Burke School because the foundation I received is incomparable.”

Girls graduate from Burke’s ready for the broader world of higher education, career, community and family armed with the skills and core competencies they need to realize their individual potentials.

I invite you to learn more about Burke’s in our 103rd year of educating, encouraging and empowering girls.  Join me in watching a bit of recess, and stay for a most exciting nine-year journey.
